The San Xavier del Bac Mission is located in the Santa Cruz Valley nine miles south of Tucson, Arizona.... The present church was built from 1783 - 1797 by the Franciscan Fathers Juan Bautista Velderrain and Juan Bautista Llorenz. Restoration to the interior of the church was started in 2001 and it is amazing what they have done - when I visited as a child and teenager you couldn't see much of the murals or the incredible paintings on the ceilings... now it is incredible! I didn't take much of the front of the main mission when I was there in 2005 since it was covered in scaffolding... will have to go dig up some earlier film shots.. I shot a couple rolls of b/w here with my Pentax SLR years ago...
