14Jan06 Assorted Fungus - 9766

Connecticut

Photo a Day, Day 290...Found this fungus on a log I brought in for the wood stove and thought it would be an interesting candidate for the macro lens... however, I learned not to get too close with the macro when photographing wet fungus as it has a strong resemblance to snot... ICK!

I'm also determined to figure out how to get good yellows from the Adobe ACR... really liked how this carnation and mum turned out but wasn't sure I really wanted to put two practically all yellow shots in a row...

ACR, Masked Selective color layer to make white background really white, Resize, Frame, Sharpen: PhotoshopCS2

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
1/2s f/11.0 at 100.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Wonderful textures! I thought it resembled a snail.

What a wonderful macro - very special. The fungus looks as if it has the same texture as a snail, and similar colours.

These are the sort of fungi that set hard making them impossible to break. A bit like an oyster shell isn't it...fantastic shot, & the lichen is a bonus.
Your yellows look like melted butter...beautiful.

Now this is very interesting. and looks like some lichen under it. This shot makes me think of Polly and all the interesting things she taught all of us.
