Woodstork

I loved watching these birds, with their featherless heads. They can be quite awkward on land but a
beautiful sight in flight, gliding & doing areobatic stunts...they can even fly upside down.
Sadly, they are dying off due to the reduction of wetlands, now are mostly seen in man-made freshwater reservoirs.

At least one can think that the decrease of wet lands in Florida is due to migration of people from north and south, releasing human pressure on wildlife where the migrant come from. Nice clarity and perfect focus.

Such a beautifully composed portrait of what must be an amazing bird. A true barnstormer. Maybe more photographs and histories would save a wetland or two. No post - no chance. Thanks. I know now more than I did. "Ah but I was so much older then, I'm younger then that now" --Bob Dylan-- V

Having grown up reading 'Peanuts' I misread this as 'Woodstock'.
I've never seen a bird fly upside down before -- this guy must be
a serious acrobat. I'm very sorry to hear about the shrinking habitat.

It bothers me a lot to know that their numbers have dwindled so. I don't understand why we have to kill off so many of the natural wetlands. Beautiful shot and thank you for sharing! V

It angers me, what we are doing to the
natural habitat of so many species. Florida's
freshwater wetlands are slowly dwindling, being
replaced by more and more housing. *sigh* Sorry
for the slight rant. Lovely peek at this bird on
land... flying upside down, hmmm, I can barely walk
straight, even on a treadmill. ~Bon
