::Devil's Island Gallery::

Devil's Island is one of 3 Salvation Islands used by the French as penal colonies from the mid-1800s until after World War II. We were not allowed on Devil's Island,
but toured the old prison facilities on Isle Royale, from which you can see Devil's Island. (depicted in the movie, "Papillon"). This most notorious & infamous of
penal colonies devised by man was often referred to as the "Green Hell, assisted by nature with its almost impenetrable surrounding ocean and jungle."
