Bar Harbor sits on Mount Desert, which is also part of Acadia National Park. Cadillac Mountain, which we drove partly to the top, and climbed the rest, is the highest mountain on the east coast. The moutain is very rocky and barren, so that's why it's called Mount Desert, although the locals called it Dessert.
