American Robin juvenile

Wisconsin

This newly fledged robin was sitting on the railing of my deck. He tried to fly and flew right into the neighbors house. Soon he was back up on the (secure) deck. I came out and was sitting a few feet from him. He had his mouth open waiting for someone to come along and feed him.

I read that only 1/4 of the robins that fledge make it until November of that year. A robin can live to 14 years but rarely do.

200mm lens with 1.4x extender and extension tube for close focusing= 280mm

Update: The mother robin flew onto the deck and fed the fledge a little. She then flew over to the neighbor's yard. The photo below is right after mom flew away. He is getting ready to go over. When he left, he flew into the house again. I think this is a difficult case!

Canon EOS 5D ,Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM

other sizes: small medium large original auto

That's such a great capture, Cindy. He looks nervous about being in the big world alone :>) v
