Eagle Bluff Lighthouse is located on the beautiful Door County peninsula. The building dates from 1868. The winter conditions on the Green Bay are very harsh. The original lighthouse keeper was a Norwegian seaman. In 1883 the original lightkeeper, Stanley, was reassigned to a Lighthouse near Sturgeon Bay and William Duclon was assigned. He and his family kept the light for 35 years. They had seven sons and many stories from the colorful family survive. The final keeper was Captain Peter Coughlin. He served until 1926. At that time the light was automated. Years of neglect followed, but the house has now been restored.
