Carl Officer is a thief. Alvin Parks is not much better. As long as the citizens of ESL keep electing slick, good-looking guys with "curb appeal" who use public office to line their pockets, ESL doers not have much of a future.

To whom it may concern...
Hello :). My great grandfather worked for the sheriff's dept. and also served as mayor of Cahokia for one term, I believe. I am not sure of the year. His name was William "Bill" Miskell. I have a few newspaper articles and pictures of him, but I am looking for bits of history on when he lived and worked there. I would appreciate any suggestions on where to find this kind of information, or any insight considering William Miskell. Most of my family is from that area but live elsewhere now. My grandfather, Robert Miskell also worked as an officer or detective for the sheriff's office there, and has given me some information. However, he is not in the best health. I would also like the same kind of information on him if anyone could help?
I ran across this forum while searching so I thought I would start here. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much

I was born in 1965 and raised in East St. Louis part of the mighty class of 84. East Side High until the day I die. I agree with all the love you express for the city and I go back once a year. It is sad to see the state of affairs that brought the city to it's knees but that's water under the bridge. I'm ready to invest in the revitalization of the city but Carl I'm not sure. I know him personally and believe he could do a good job for all the reasons D. Robinson said but I do remember he was major when it all came tumbling down. I do believe he has grown by leaps and bounds since then. I'm for it! East Side!

My home town, when asked where I'm from I am always proud to answer East St. Louis, but it saddens me of the response "oh, it's pretty rough there or sure you're glad to be away from there." Please people the man who has the city at heart is Mr. Carl E. Officer, just look at it like this he's good looking, he's a gentleman, he's educated, rich and don't have to play games with the city's budget, it is as simple as that. So people get er done, get all of those dead beat politician out of there and elect Mr. Carl E. Officer, he has the plan and has had it for while, so haters move out of his way and let him put east st. louis back on the map as a prosperious city.

Just seeing the words "East St. Louis" makes me homesick. Growing up there in the 60s seems so idyllic now. I miss those feelings.

I was born and raised in E.St. Louis in 1946 at Christian Welfare Hospital. My class was the first to go completely through East Side. I graduated in 1964, and am proud to have done it and been raised there. I worked on Collinsville Ave. in the late 60's at an office supply store. If you go into the basements of those stores, there are store fronts that were covered when the downtown area was raised at the turn of the century (20th). The downtown area was raised to prevent the flooding of the downtown area before the levee and flood gate were built. I don't know if they can still be seen, but out Missouri Ave. just past the old Holiday Inn, the columns holding the streets up could still be seen.

i was borne and raised in East Saint Louis back in the 60's and i love the area and wish i could go back to it i am actually home sick. I lived in the 17 hundred block of Tudor ave where at the time the Mayor was Mayor Mason as a matter of fact he lived on the corner from me to which today his house is still there and i do believe that his wife still lives there and Friendship Baptist church was on the other corner and my grandfather helped to build a church in that town so to all that have comments East Saint Louis has not always been a bad town to live in. I went to Dunbar Elementary school and Mr. Mckinney was my principal as well and i got a great education and i spent many days playing in Lincoln Park and at the Mary E Brown center so lay off of my town. There are a lot of poverished towns and communities around the world and East Saint is not the first to be this way and definitely will not be the last and i like Carl Officer he handled both of my grandparents funeral services and did an excellent job and to state a fact he must have something going for himself his family's funeral home does a lot of business there so someone has to think highly of him.

I love my home, home is where the heart is, I had a lot of fun there in E.St.Louis. I also ran up on one of my friend from Tuscaloosa, AL, Louise and we graduated the same school and year. When I first arrived I felt lost and alone. I come back every year
