Paul, as you can see the bird is being lit up by the sun, so it may not be dead south, it's somewhat south.

Our cannas were clobbered by the recent storms. Hopefully we'll get one more blossom from each before the end of the season.

Outstanding. What is the hummingbird perched on? Looks like the remains of a blossom. Not much needed to hold the bird's minuscule mass. The background looks almost like an aurora.

Just a fine capture. You were able to get a fine background as well.
BTW, I showed you photos to my friend who is the naturalist here in Madera Canyon, and a pretty good photographer himself. He was impressed.
