Climbing bean plants use twining stems, rather than tendrils, to grab onto support poles. The flexible, fast-growing tips of the main vine reach out and naturally spiral around the pole using a growth movement called thigmotropism, which causes the plant to wrap tightly when it touches a surface.
This is a bean plant in my daughter's garden.
