Paul, Dave and Jim...Yes, this is the Broad in DT LA. The Broad came to be because Mr Broad was so enraged at the destruction of LACMA that he retained the balance of his collection and built a new Museum in DT LA. (the Broad Contemporary still remains at LACMA as a distinct and separate building at LACMA...my Stairway to Heaven image in the Challenge is up the Side of t he Broad Contemporary at LACMA to its 3rd floor/level).
I hates the new LACMA's building even having visited the site last week. The formal opening of the new LACMA will occur on April 19...I doubt that I will attend, though the Friday night concerts will resume soon...So, I expect that I will never be a Member of LACMA again...despite myself, I do enjoy the place and the people at LACMA. Sigh, life is difficult for me.
Please understand that LACMA was a real home for me...but:
"Dismantling One of the Great Encyclopedic Museums in the Country: The Regrettable LACMA Redesign"
“This is a hostile takeover of the museum, and if the design succeeds in hijacking the institution, Los Angeles will be living for a long time with a wanton act of architecture, and the bitter memory of a very expensive betrayal of the public trust.” —Joseph Giovannini
"One former director of a major American museum told me, on the condition of anonymity: “It is all poorly configured and way too small and will mean that far fewer objects from LACMA’s excellent collections are shown and many more will remain in storage. I’m afraid no program of clever juxtapositions, novel interpretations, thought experiments, etc., will make up for the richness of experience that this radically smaller and poorly conceived layout will make inevitable.”
It took me a few minutes after my first post to realize that’s not a low angle and little people everywhere it’s oversized art. Duh! Since you’re boycotting the LACMA I’ll guess the Broad? Paul
