Alastair - interesting. My Pixel 9 and the Google Camera ID identified it as a Mourning dove, verifying my guess. It is AI, so it also suggests alternatives. BTW, we have a lot of them around our compound. Jim

I thought they were Mourning Doves too, but Apple says they are Streptopelia, or Picui Ground Dove, and Google photos says they are Laughing Doves or European turtle doves, or maybe Eurasian collared doves. Looking at other pictures of Mourning Doves, though, I'm pretty sure you are correct (score one for humans over AI!). Interestingly, I have always (until now) thought that is was Morning Dove rather than Mourning Dove. I suppose I've only ever heard it spoken, and not written until now. Alastair

Very nice detail for 500mm...the feathers are very distinct...nice capture...but, as I write....do you know what these birds are? (I finally have a bird feeder under by balcony....and these greedy little SoB's have gone through 5 lbs of feed already...and they are messy eaters, there are empty shells everywhere). So I suddenly have some interest in birds, I suppose. But these are pretty, unlike mine. Best Wishes, Traveller
