Unexpected Morning Surprise

The trap is just outside our kitchen (saw some turkeys in the same spot a few mornings later) and was one of the first things I noticed when I came downstairs for breakfast and work (WFH MF).

It wasn't my groundhog who tore up my friend's yard and his wife's flower beds.
And not so little.

You guys really, really hate groundhogs!!!!! Smiley, furry little critters. Be nice. Traveller

That’s the groundhog’s fault for not holding its breath.

I believe that the trap also adds a bit of weight, and as you say, makes it difficult to stroke well.

He or she is long gone, released on the day they were captured. I approached the trap from the closed end, covered it with a garbage bag, and carried it to a spot on the lawn where I later opened the door while the trap remained covered. The skunk (probably a juvenile) didn't exit immediately. It was gone the next morning. For some reason I will likely never know, it never sprayed.

Jim, they have even more difficulty swimming when the trap is placed in the water for, um, cleaning.

BTW, shot at 400 mm - a good choice.

Yikes - a great capture, and a fine capture.
I'll reask Paul's question -- basically what's next.
I had a friend on a farm on a lake who caught a very destructive groundhog this way.
His wife wouldn't let him shoot him.
He told us later - you know, groundhogs can't swim.

Oof…. What’s your plan for releasing this guy. I cover my cage with a towel to keep the squirrels calm during transport but Pepé Le Pew is another thing altogether. Honestly not sure how I’d handle that situation. I sold off all the firearms I had or I’d be tempted. Paul
