I'll be passing through Canada again in a couple of months. Hopefully fences will be mended by then.

I'm more concerned about a trip to Europe we have planned. What will the reception there be like?

Great looking car. As for Canada and border crossings, I have quite a few Canadian friends who often come to the US for conferences. At least half of them have cancelled all plans to do that in the foreseeable future. I'll be in San Francisco for a big philosophy conference next month, and will be interested to see how many of the scheduled foreign academics, including Canadians, actually show up. I run a big international ethics conference in Boulder every August. I'll also be interested to see how many proposals are coming from overseas this year (our submission deadline is in three days). An unintended, but silver lining, of the behavior of the current guy is that the quite extreme Canadian conservative party, which was recently 20 points ahead in the polls to form the next Canadian government, is now actually trailing to the extremely centrist technocrat Mark Carney.

Big difference between Canadian and Mexican borders? I don't think things are loose up north; there are plenty of stories of arrests and interdictions. I have a NEXUS card, so my normal may differ from that of others. I certainly like not waiting in a long line when a special lane is available.

Not being difficult, but as a PSA, Public Service Announcement:

The Fourth Amendment protects against unreasonable search and seizures, but the line gets blurred within 100 miles of international borders. At any port of entry, all of these searches are considered a "reasonable search," so no warrant is required. "So, long story short, you have rights, but really, you don't have any rights," Heubel said.

Paul - that is life now at the border. MAGA has turned ICE loose. There are lawsuits in progress.
FWIW, we won't cross the border today.

How could they search your phone, that’s clearly a 4th amendment right violation for a US citizen without RAS that a crime has been committed. A foreigner entering the USA, maybe but not an individual with a US passport.

For what it’s worth I wouldn’t want to go into Mexico either, especially driving. Paul

FWIW, I will be traveling down to San Diego mid April...I will not be crossing the border to the consternation of the couple I will be traveling with...weird things at the border, phones being searched on return, or so I hear...SD is fine, Mexico now, probably not. Traveller

Crossing during Covid was different but now feels pretty much the same as before. Apparently, Canadians feel less welcome crossing into the US. I have been told that secondary inspections are up and some have had visits from agents away from the border (which sounds like harassment).

The car is a Lamborghini Gallardo. An early model, I am told.

That is one sweet looking car!

Dave do you find any changes in the crossing procurers since January 20th? I live in a red state and am registered red but can’t stand the big, humongous guy in DC. Paul

This is the US-Canadian border. Only respectable vehicles attempt the crossing. Not sure which of them contain individuals making it illegally or where all the fentanyl is.

I just lucked into my place in line. Imagine the agent's thrill at processing two exotic Italian cars in a row. And don't you worry about that Lamborghini; I could hear its engine screaming as its driver took the ramp for the fun route (which I took last September but elected not to use this time).

I note there ain't no junkers in this lane doing the "Crossing." Where are some wrecks belching smoke, some hippie Vans, Gang Bangers with blacked out windows? This line-up looks positively wholesome. Traveller

How did you get this position behind the "The HIP" and Lamborghini ?? I love the color of the car.
He needs to bring this out to the SouthWest (or MT) where he can really open it up.
