Penises were common, as you probably know, throughout the ancient world. Later, religious groups took special glee and zeal in breaking these penises off of statutes, though hopefully not also off of humans.

But as you note, this was a very prominent penis to be placed as boarder posts, etc (maybe people were proud of their penises?) Traveller
