19 SOB

Four years I escaped but my luck finally ran out. So I, we, are locked in isolation in the master bedroom. Had a rough patch for a while last night and hoping not for a resurgence tonight.

Brain Fog! I have it all the time and I don't have Covid!...lol...But seriously, thank you for the follow up. It sometimes seems embarrassing to talk about these kinds of things, but it is actually helpful...I now know what to do and how to behave if I get similarly sickly...so thank you. Best Wishes, Nick

Brain fog! I forgot to answer your first question on how we knew it was Covid. Fog is one of the symptoms BTW. Yes we tested using the free tests. She tested positive right away and I was negative. She was symptomatic and I was not but I tested too since we are together in close proximity all the time.

I pulled out my camping cot, self inflating camp mat and sleeping bag and slept downstairs for 2 nights when I noticed I was sneezing, headache, mild cough, sore throat and body aches. Retest…yep I’m positive and texted her and said we’re gonna be roomies again.

Messaged the doctor and after a series of questions (twice, brain fog) she calls in the Paxlovid to the drugstore so I got on it quick and the sooner the better it works. Hate the side effects but it’s working since I tested again last night and it was a very faint but still positive line so it’s working and I’m finishing the 5 day course. I’m testing again this morning hopefully negative so I can enjoy Christmas maybe a little more ish.

I did enjoy that story, one that I’ve experienced numerous times myself to the point when I got back home the wife would ask what happened to my eyebrows. I always would respond with “eyebrows are overrated”.

A little late for you now but your mistake was forgetting that homes built in that time frame generally were wired live at the ceiling box and loop down to a switch to control the fixture. Admit it, you were wondering why there were so many big fat wires in the box. Hopefully (unlikely) it’s conduit and wire rather than BX cable or old cloth/tarpaper romex.

Your electrician is gonna call you his savior since his spouse maxed out both the Visa and Mastercard over the holidays and I suspects he doesn’t accept oversized fruit baskets as payments.

We are improving but Paula and I both hate the Paxlovid. She feels like it has an effect on the body like a statin drug has with the musculoskeletal issues we both are experiencing. I’m sitting in my camping chair with my feet and legs up on the bed hoping it’s a circulation problem. It isn’t, they just ache to no end. Where is the Tylenol, I need 4 or 5 of them about now. Paul

I am impressed by the fact that you and Paula are isolating. How do you know it is covid? Did you use some of those free government supplied covid test kits? In any case, I hopefully will leave you with a minor story that might put a smile on your face.

There is a moderately sized party going on at one of my Apartments when the kitchen light went out where my tenant was cooking.

There was a frantic call to me and of course, I ran upstairs to hopefully repair the situation but considering it was an old fluorescent light bar, we considered it wise to run on down to Home Depot and buy something new that was in fact, LED, though I did not know that until I was checking out. Back at the apartment, I came to more fully realize how uncomfortable I am ceiling high on a paint ladder. Also, holding your arms up pulling out screws and fixtures is more tiring than I thought.

I had electric power at the light switch, I had power coming out of a ceiling junction box, or at least I thought so, but it must have been only because I had stretched the wiring when testing the current and so I went ahead with the installation process, audience of party goers included, as it grew increasingly dark with the approach of night.

Alas, while completing the wiring, red and blue and yellow sparks with great popping sounds flew out of the ceiling box, plunging the entire apartment into darkness. There were suitably awed “Ooohs and aahs,” as sparks flew and the lights went out. Then there was the foolishness of me trying to descend shakily from the ladder in the dark...none of this does a good Christmas Carol make.

What I ultimately did was set aside all this disassembly and I put up a Tiffany table lamp in their kitchen so that they could complete their cooking and continue the party after I got the main switch box working again. Voila, there was light to include their temporarily darkened Christmas tree. People were relieved my foolishness was coming to an end.

I taped everything off with electrical tape and put in calls to my electrician for I suppose, at the earliest, Tuesday.

Paul, I hope that this Eve of Christmas Eve story brings some smiles to your face.

We are both fully vaccinated and overall it’s been pretty mild except for a 4 hour period in the night. I had 5 layers of blankets on and I was still freezing, shaking and couldn’t stay still because every joint ached. You’re guessing high fever right… except no it wasn’t. 2 Tylenol and 2 hours later it passed. Paula came down with it first and has been fairly mild too but had a tough time early with coughing until she got on the Paxlovid. It certainly appears to help immensely.

Now we have to wait till 2 negative test before can come out of isolation. No doubt after Christmas + 2 or 3 days. Or more! Paul

Not the best news you can give us a few days before Christmas. Take care of yourself - and Paula as well.
We are in MN. Most people here are getting bad colds. Our daughter said two teachers called in yesterday with Covid.
