15 My Granddaughter

Richfield, MN

I am so thankful for my three grand kids. This is my middle one - a fine young lady who is a sophomore in college. She is a swimmer at Illinois State Univ, majoring in Biology. We are very proud of her accomplishments, both in the pool and academically.
Body jewelry is a bit different today than when I was growing up.

Right now she only swims the long distance free style in competition - 800 yards and up.
In High School, she used to swim the longer individual medleys which included the butterfly.

Very nice shot. Is the butterfly what she swims? I know a couple of people in the Philosophy Department at Illinois State, and gave a talk there a few years ago. The town is Normal, Illinois. There's a story there about a local newspaper headline from years ago, announcing the marriage of a resident of their town to a resident of a different Illinois town--Oblong, Illinois. The story is that the headline read "Normal Man Marries Oblong Woman" (or it might have been the other way around). I've no idea whether it's true, but I hope it is.

She is a long distance swimmer only. I think the piercings stay in when she swims, but are covered by her swim cap. I'll have to ask.
As for the photo, she wanted to show us her new butterfly tattoo.

And you have a good relationship with her to take that picture. I'm sure all those items have meaning for her. I should ask my niece (also a college sophomore) about hers, carefully so as not to sound critical. Neither of our kids (a college senior and veterinary student) have any, and I can't say that bothers me.

Yes, I am a little weirded out by both body jewelry and tattoos...but these are Okay, (in my professional opinion...lol....discrete and quality). I am most impressed by the photography....just smartly and well accomplished. Damned pretty hair also! Traveller
