16 Hoping for Fish

Boulder, CO

I was walking around this lake, looking for birds (not many in evidence), but found some ice fishers instead. It's cold here right now (around 20-25F), but not cold enough for me to be out on a lake!

A few minutes after I took that shot, he dragged a little sled over next to him, maybe so he could use it as boat if the ice broke? I put a picture of that in Exhibition.

So far not a good season for ice fishing here. I've never seen anyone do it on the lakes closest to where I live. Either not allowed or well known to be dangerous. Fresh perch or walleye would be yummy, though.

T,
Re title, I would guess that he believes he will be fine and safe- a blind faith,

And I agree, it a lot of situations, you should be with someone. In MN for ice fishing, they routinely sell ice safety gear, including claws to drag your self out of the water when the ice breaks. But every year multiple people fall in and perish.

Here in AZ, we have similar rules about hiking in the hills & mountains - be with someone, bring whistles, water, bear spray etc.

I am not frightened - I am just quite cautious.

Hope to stay alive...should be the title to this really very fine image. First, like me in most of my outing in the ocean or anywhere...he is alone...people caution me, I'd caution him that he is in more danger from the accidental freeze than I am free diving 100 yards out in the pacific....I always have a marine whistle on me....there are life guards in the distance, and in Yellowstone and Montana I carry marine klaxons to scare off bears and whatever.

I am frightened by everything.

Having iced-fished in Minnesota, I can understand the Hope part.
But looking at the lake back left and right, it appears pretty thin to be out there.
