08 What's My Line?

Duke Lemur Center

The Aye Aye is a nocturnal lemur (and a fascinating animal, worth reading about), so illumination was red and rather weak. Converting the image to black and white seemed to make the most sense. In retrospect, I might have tried an even higher ISO.

Low light and shooting through (thankfully clean) glass at an angle meant manual focus, something I admit I rarely do these days. That and the lens's maximum aperture produced less than studio results. Still, I'm happy with what I got. Yes, I bumped up shadows and contrast and used sharpening and denoise.

I have placed the original shot in Pending so you can see my starting point. https://pbase.com/image/172775826

Jim is right, you brought this picture a long, long way...I think it is fetching just as it is...added eye color maybe interesting, but will it ever look natural?

PS I would actually assign this task to Jim as the master!

Best Wishes, Traveller

I did see the one in pending. You did a great job getting it to this point.
Working the eyes only won't be easy - but it could be fun.
And I was thinking of something subtle.

Thanks, Jim. Did you see the original shot in Pending? The eyes weren't their natural color. I will have to, um, colorize them.
Sounds like I may be headed for a date with layering. I'm not sure I'll have time to master that in the next few weeks.

A very expressive creature, Paul, very few of which have likely ever seen headlights.

Ha, it has the deer in the headlights look. Paul

This came out well.
If you kept a bit of color in the eyes, it might make it even more catchy; even a bit more brightness in the eyes only might work.
