Thanks. Two very sweet dogs with distinct personalities. This shot is of our older dog (he will be 16 in June). He is a bit suspicious and protective but warms up to visitors once he senses they're welcome. He's almost deaf and easy to surprise. His "little sister" functions as his substitute ears.

The previous shot was of our younger dog (almost 8). She treats every human as if they are her new best friend. Some people consider her aggressively friendly. Those who know dogs understand she craves attention.

Beautiful shot (and dog). A good example of what a phone can do well.

Much nicer...though I will not hazard a guess which soul is nicer between these dogs.

Traveller (is there a difference?)

D- most of the time the phone does pretty well with straightforward photos and straightforward lighting. In this case, you have an opportunity, if wanted, to play with the deep shadows.

You will need some software that can do some local area modifications for this wonderful shot.

I've never done anything beyond cropping with the phone.

Have you tried the photo editing feature built right into the iPhone and or the iPad? It has a lot of features that work very well including shadows and highlights. It will not resize but a free Resizer app is available. Paul

Thanks for the good suggestions. What I should do is keep my camera closer at hand. DPP won't let me adjust this iPhone photo much. Time to feed him and his sister.

If you wanted to, you could just boost the shadows on the right hand side.
I don't think much, if anything, is needed. It comes down to personal taste.

I was sitting at my home office (AKA the far end of kitchen table), and he lay down next to me. He lay down next to me, windows to the left on a sunny morning, and I shot. Getting up to fetch a white board would have lost the moment. I was happy not to be shooting with flash.

My favorite of the two. Maybe consider a white board to reflect a little more light on the face. Paul
