12 Morning Flower

This is actually a new gift (from a nice woman) I received 3 days ago. I shot it in the very early morning light with flash also, the day was new as was the gift....(Today, this afternoon, I tried this as a deep macro...but this is actually better, better expresses my intent with the fall off of the flash and shallow.ish DOF).

IMO, the white background would not look as good as the present blue.

If you want to use a whiteboard as a background try moving it well back of the subject so it’s OOF and lighting it separately. Paul

I am not going to post my "losers" -- too many of them. ;-)

Re your still life shot -
the lighting is great, giving you some shadows. I can picture the window on the left.
The background is a fine color for the subject; and sets off the ice plant.
The light texture in the background is just right.
The overall composition is a fine example of the rule of thirds.

I did try to use white board and black board behind the flowers, it did not work effectively.

Also as you know, I am either lazy or busy (damned if I know), and so I never spend enough time on any project...I find it hard to believe that anything would be beyond your photographic grasp.

The quarterly challenge I have in process for my local photo club is "Still Life". As I continue to explore that photographically, I am learning a lot. This shot is a great example of fine classical still life.

I needed to keep the blue ice plant, lower right, in some sort of focus to balance off the natural tilt & weight from the main subject above. The image is already Skewed right, and the ice plant has received a lovely pantia of Dodging that I find quite agreeable.

Less agreeable was my shoot of this as a Macro....since I had to await an overnight's sleep to accept as acceptable the above frame, (as a starting point), it is quite possible that one of the Macro's will also look ok tomorrow...but I don't know.

This came out really well. A pretty good DOF even at f/4. The furthest flower is just about right.
