09 Holga 120N

Barnesville, GA

Update On The Film From This Camera:
Still no film back from Wal-Mart. Probably not the best option to have used at this point. I've moved this here from Pending since it does have a bit of Holiday cheer in the background there. This Canon G7X is a really nice little camera. It takes pretty nice Bokeh photos. I'm taking it back out today while I go on a job interview so I hope to get more photos to post here for the challenge.

Paul: This camera has no features. From what I hear, they have terrible light leak issues but from an artistic standpoint, I'm kinda looking for that sort of thing. It's just a cheap plastic camera. The only metal inside this thing is the little spring that moves the shutter out of the way when I push the shutter release. I'm not even sure how long THAT will last to be honest.

Dave: As far as the reasoning for the shutter release being like that... Poor design quality... which kind of goes with the rest of this camera really. It's very clunky and it even FEELS cheap. But I'm hoping to get some interesting images out of it. I'm thinking my first roll is lost in the shuffle. I should have never sent it to Wal-Mart. I'm on the hunt to find a mail in place where I can mail my film and have it developed. Wal-Mart couldn't promise getting the negatives back either which kind of stinks in that respect. Why wouldn't they send the negatives back to the customer? Sounds like bad business practice to me.

Most film cameras I ever owned had a built in light meter and split prism focusing screen. Are there any features built in to assist you in either? I’m guessing no! Paul

Count me among those that didn't know, Alan, I've never heard of a shutter like that. What was the reasoning?

I have my father's now nearly sixty-year-old Zeiss Ikon, and while the shutter button no longer works (I use a cable release instead) the mechanical shutter action is very satisfying.

Hi Dave,

I want to see what the film looks like when I get it back next week. Something tells me I may need a little more practice with that shutter release.

For those that don't know, you press the shutter release and it opens the shutter. It won't close until you release the shutter.

Photo 1 was about a half second exposure... It'll either be really blurry or way over exposed to see anything. Also, the position of the shutter release is almost dead center on the front of the camera next to the lens of the camera. So camera movement is going to be an issue for me as well.

Thanks,
Alan

Hey Jim,

It's nice to be back! I had a lot of fun yesterday running my errands and taking pictures. It is definitely something I've missed doing.

Thanks for getting me back in here as well. I appreciate it greatly!

Thanks again!
Alan
