Well, I have a version (of course!) shot without the upper lights and activity...but this is is my version of choice....I want to place it within the city...which is part of what makes it nice...this isn't private...it is open to millions.

I have also heard from a cinematographer that really liked this...this was surprising to me, but maybe I did achieve my aim to make this Outlook Hotel/Shining blood-like.

Still, this is not an important image...it is a trifle...but it is a trifle that does what I want.

I like it, but I agree that it might look even better with the buildings at the top either darkened or cropped out.

I think you’re referring to the vendor tents in commons area, they are a touch bright but personality I don’t find it overly distracting, just part of the scene. To make that shot he’d need a graduated ND filter and holder? Even the king of slow shutter handheld shots would need a tripod.
I came within inches of buying a GDN set before I sold out. Paul

Paul, for me, the bright buildings in the background distract me and catch my eye. I then take my eyes off the main subject.
I personally like it the best with the background fully blacked out by 4 stops - not cropped.

This looks fine to me like it is, no filters needed.
This is not La Brea, this is a series of green space parks out front of city hall and behind Stanley Mosk court house. Paul

La Brea tar pits?

I am still considering this. This may be one of your toughest nighttime subjects to shoot.

A couple of things bother and/or distract me. I have tried cropping, adding a neutral density filter, and local exposure. None of them have pleased me. You have done everything technically right, so it has to be the subject.
