I think the lack of clarity in the ice might actually be better, at least for this shot. But it would be interesting to see a comparison.

Miscommunication, I don’t use distilled to wash the cars, I use it to fill the foam canon with water after adding the soap. The ratio of soap concentration to water is 1 to 5, add 6 oz of foam soap then fill the foam sprayer with 24 oz of water. I read that by using distilled water in the canon rather than tap water produces thicker foam that stays in place longer. Maybe next time I wash them I should test with tap water instead to see if it’s worth the extra effort. Or maybe I should just subscribe to Charlie’s unlimited car washes a mile up the road for 20 bucks a month. Paul

Why do you use distilled water to wash your car? How many gallons are needed?

Purified is simply filtered and for the best quality they use reverse osmosis. Distilled is different and you might give it’s try. It’s a little over a dollar for a gallon. I buy it to use in my foam cannon for washing the cars with my pressure washer. Oh do you pre freeze your cherries? If not give it a whirl. Really interested in seeing the results. Paul.

This looks much better to me this morning...without screen tired eyes (which is really kind of worrisome if you think about age and vision).

Be that as it may, I do not have central air conditioning...and none upstairs at all. The house being built in 1936 is of lath and plaster walls....and thick...impossible to even drive a nail in these walls...which is probably good for earthquake purposes, but also with regards to heat. Generally I don't need air...it should hit 90 today but I am fine inside...the kitchen does get hotter though.

Clear ice is a different and actually difficult issue...the ice in this shot is purified water, purchased specifically for this shot, but not boiled twice to drive out air bubbles. There is also directional freezing as an added option...but I am not willing to do this and put at risk all my frozen goods.

So I may try again but also boil my purified water twice before use....lol

PS Your comment re distilled water has me thinking that distilled water is different than purified water.

Hot… Do you not have a air conditioning system in your home? Click it from the “OFF” position to the “COOL” position, wait a hour or two and try again.

Love the concept you’ve come up with! There is some science behind clear ice and it has something to do with water purity. Maybe try distilled water and I kinda remember something about if you start with hot distilled water it’s clearer yet. Maybe our resident science expert will chime in and tell me I’m full of it and go stand in the corner and he’ll set you on the right path. ;-) Paul.

as a matter of self criticism:

1. getting clear crystal ice formed was more difficult than I thought

2. Only the frozen really unripened cherries looked passably ok

3. it is really hot in my kitchen and these were melting fast...so my flash and light set up was good, (for me), time and repositioning for a tripod in my car...wasn't possible.

4. a few more f stops would have been helpful I think

5. Or, would the the canon flash unit have over ridden my quick settings? Hummm....go to manual settings, I may try this again. (if I get some more cherries)
