Jim... I know I replied to you by dpr pm but I though I'd post my reply here too, as I now know how to comment :-)
The oil is actually water. The water is sitting on a fresh shiny black roof that is being relaid at the moment. And the little bubbles are actually fine rain drops reflecting from the sun.

Traveller... I agree, the scene is distracted by the 'floating leaf'. I originally seen it's presence as some mystifying object connecting the two parts of the scene, but it actually steals your focus away from the whole scene. I've cloned it out and uploaded the altered image. Thanks for your honest and rightful comment, I appreciate it.

Alastair... Thank you for the flattering comment.
It has had very little post-processing. All I did was tighten the histogram (if you know what I mean, auto gamma in DPP), then strip the image back to monochrome and then saturate the blues from the sky reflection. The image capture did all the work.

If the lower 1/3 of this is oil, how did you maintain all that structure?
And are the small spots actually bubbles?

Whatever it is, I like it.

I would love to know what processing you did with this. I can easily imagine this on a gallery wall.

I think I get this image and like it quite a lot...one suggestion, (but remember as with all suggestions....the Artist rules in all regards) the separate floating oil spot on the upper middle right, I would clone out....Begone distraction!

Or not, entirely your choice.

Best Wishes, Traveller

I am having trouble figuring out what I am looking at.
It looks like a an area of "dirty liquid" interfacing with clean water.
