Well, I remember corn silk as being golden yellow....I think it depends on the breed. There is that corn with red and yellow kernels...and I think that this is what this is. The other stand of corn I saw was typical, to my memory and I am sure that it is straight yellow corn.

The red of the tassels really caught my attention....which is why I photographed this stand of corn and not the other.

Thanks for chiming in, Bright Man, your comments are always welcome and appreciated.

The idiot is back for some clarity and eating crow. I was driving north on mission road just south of 135 street in Leawood Ks today and to my left I noticed a beautiful looking corn field. I took several glances looking for the tassels and low and behold I saw them. They were dark brown, not over saturated red, but darker than I recall so apparently my memory fails me more than I thought. Just thought I’d drop by and fess up to my doofus moment. PAA.

Jim grew up as a country boy in NY, with a corn field within 50 yards of his back yard. But that was some time ago; memories fade. I also know that there are multiple varieties of corn as seen in the fields of MN. That said, I agree that the silk appears a bit saturated, but not too dark. I don't recall seeing anything quite so red, though.
But - the greens appear to be ok, though the tassels are a bit saturated.

Now with all that field observation, I fully agree with the art observation - it is a fine artistic shot.

Ok so get ready to feel bad all over again. After all Jim is a city boy right, rule numero uno is never ever trust a city boy when it comes to farm advise. ;-).
Being a county boy myself and seeing corn in every stage of maturity I’d say the silk is too dark and over saturated. But and that’s a big BUT this is art so ignore the comments from the poor under educated idiot from Kansas. Love the light and light is everything in photography and art.
Idiot.

Thanks, seriously, I feel much better....I helped raise corn as a youth so to see this ripening field was...actually heart stopping and an old memory joy.

A hundred feet away was a more newly planted field with white corn silk, so still far from picking and husking.

Well, I guess it depends when you plant it...at least in California.

Best Wishes, Traveller

I really like this. Great composition and color and lighting.
It is a perfect summer shot.

BTW, per you last question - it looks great on my calibrated monitor. You have a full tonal range.

That corn looks fantastic, I’ve noticed the farmers corn fields here are tall and looking great but are at least 60 days from the usual harvest time. Paul
