When I bought my 6D from Adorama they included a monopod and a few other things to sweeten the pot since Canon uses protected prices where you can’t sell the product below a certain level but can include anything else they like to attract more customers. Anyway the mono pod they sent me is a decent pod but the head is junk, scary bad junk to the point I used it once but decided never again until I get a better head. Paul

Thanks...I did buy myself a mono-pod for Christmas, but it still sits in the trunk of my car. I'd pull it out, but I was afraid it would change the dynamic...they being maybe professionally video-graphed, and me not be as welcome as I normally am...I will see and speak to these professional actors maybe three times this summer...last Friday, A Winter's Tale, soon for their Production of Merry Wives of Windsor, and probably a closing show in late August.

I'm nice to them, I want them to stay nice to me...but I didn't really get to the heart of your question...I have learned to keep my elbows tucked in tight to my body for stability, using my right thumb for whatever zooming I might do...

I really appreciate the encouragement...since I'm not very good at this, but learning and trying.

Thanks again

It works well. Your video work is quite good.
Did you use a mono pod?

A mid point interlude of fun and dancing and a husband trying to discourage his wife from buying trifles from a wandering salesman that also happens to be a thief.

Let us see if this works...it may be necessary to copy and past...we will see.

A final point if I may...I suppose I like Shakespeare more than many people, and yet I can dislike it more than most people when done poorly...

I was prepared to really dislike A Winter's Tale...it is one of Shakespeare's lesser works in the eyes of the critics...and I had never been able to make my way though it...but, but it was great fun...easy to follow, full of infidelity, infanticide, horrible parenting, shame and theft and disaster....

But it was really pretty good; better than that, it was very good. I didn't want to take any pictures, and I only took a few, so that I could concentrate on the action on the stage...

I will post here maybe tomorrow a 5 minute video I shot and uploaded to Youtube...not the best scene to be sure....but it may give a sense of the fun Shakespeare had with stage direction, etc

I can fully agree on how hard a group shot can be; eg open eyes.
I often take a group photo of our local photography club on a field outing. I generally take three or four in rapid succession, as I can then replace someone's eyes who might have had them closed with them open in another shot.
And I can only imagine taking these shots with a cast in motion.

Jim and Paul, I must add that, without being entirely intrusive, and I am not sure that this would help....but it is damned difficult to get all eyes open at once in a group shot, to freeze movement, some of which can be quite sharp, and with a normal and minimally pleasing expression...

I must say I was again shocked at how difficult this was to get a clean shot...even with me being allowed great movement around the stage...time and time again, I'd look at the play back and this person of that was blinking their eyes....or had a very weird expression on this face or that, (but only really projecting into the audience)....this looks easy, but it isn't....(at least for me, and I'm pretty good at it)

As a photo of a story, this is really quite good. What a fun capture - so very sharp and detailed.
But you make me a little jealous. I am not aware of someplace locally where I could go to duplicate it. The Minneapolis area has a large number of theaters, from large to small, from downtown to small suburban. But as Paul says, everyone I have been in has big signs - no photos, no recording.

Let me try this again, Paul...both the Shakespeare Company at Griffith Park, and Shakespeare at the Sea are outdoor venues...picnics on grass encouraged...I doubt I could get away with this where there are assigned seating...or seating at all.

So a large function of what is possible is where you are...I was also admonished at The Globe in London, in the pits...I got some good video of Macbeth, but still...not allowed even down with the groundlings.

I hope this is a fairer answer.

This is a difficult question....yes, and most certainly no. I do have a picture of the official photographer from last night that is interesting...and may post.

Me?

From time to time I give these away to people....once even the Getty...I just do what I do. I expect to be busted next Saturday night for the opening of A Midsummer's nights Dream...where matters are much more strict for the Los Angeles Arts Council...but, well, I'll be shooting...

Everything I do is for non-commercial and personal use...I do it busted from time to time and I don't recommend this to others...but this is what I do. (I guess I am known...a little...well)

Loving the theatrical lighting! Just thinking and wondering, I, excuse me I mean we have season tickets to the New Theatre dinner restruant in Overland Park and they make it abundantly clear that no cameras or recording devices are allowed. Something to do with the actors guild. How do you get by $oing this, do you have friends in high places??? Paul.
