Today I was working in a system I installed over 10 years ago. I can't even imagine trying to do this if I was color blind, it would be a huge disaster.
To whoever couldn't 'discern' brown, orange, yellow... on the main breaker, the top one is brown, middle is orange and bottom is yellow. As stated, I'm looking at the Electric tape wrapped around each cable to identify the color. The breakers underneath appear to have non phase taped wiring. The only time I have seen something different on a main breaker would be phase taped as black, red, and blue. With the black cable not getting any tape especially if it's black. But since all 3 of these main wires have tape I know they are phase taped brown, orange, and yellow. That's it for wire identification for today. :) ~Phydoux
Let me rephrase it. Artistically this has no value. It might have a little interest to those that never have seen the inside of a 277/480 volt 3 phase panelboard before. Maybe.... Paul
I kind of disagree with you, Paul...not on substance, but this is, I think, a demonstration of an important idea...it is the true-ness of the concept that has real and substantial value.
In this photo are several clues that indicate this is a 277/480 3 phase system rather than a 120/208 starting with generally you don't tape the A phase on a 120/208 system since the THHN conductors are black which is the correct A phase color where a 277/480 system as Alan correctly added is brown so you ID it with tape. Of course there is the high interrupting rating of the breakers and the size and spacing of the bus bars. And finally as dull as this photo is (shop talk) I doubt it will see it to the end of the challenge. Paul
I don't know, Phydoux...I sense as Paul suggests that I would get myself killed plenty pronto...I'm looking at the main,( I think), and I can't discern brown, orange or yellow. Which is which, let me know...480 volts are way too many for me!
