Christmas Cactus - 3 Amigos

Green Valley, AZ

These are 3 saguaro cactus at the house next door. I shot this 2 days ago, handheld. I didn't like the result.
Last night, I shot it again on a tripod. I shot it at 0, +1, +2, -1, -2 and -3 exposures for HDR. This was put together by Lightroom with all but the +2 shot.
I have been struggling with how bright the bulbs look / should look, and what constitutes "blown out". This is my best so far. My 80D has a very high dynamic range, approaching my eye. I think the issue is that the scene actually has more dynamic range than even my eye can see, so a multishot HDR is a bit difficult at the bright end.

Canon EOS 80D ,Tamron 16-300mm
HDR of 5 shots, base at 1/3s f/7.1 at 39.0mm iso200 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

I'm an analytical person that likes to figure out how things work so my question was genuine and curiosity kept getting to me as to how they did this. Thanks for the response. Paul

Paul - I was trying to think of some smart a$$ comment, but failed. ;-)
I watched him put them up, and they are simply long strands of lights that are draped over the top of the cactus and then let hang down. The needles are long enough to prevent sideways motion, and I think that they are just pulled tight along the bottom.

I keep coming back to to look at this one. Do you know how they attach the lights to the cactus? Paul

I just went outside and looked again, and I think what I have posted is quite close to what my eye sees. I am now thinking that some of these commercial xmas bulbs are made to sparkle a bit more than clear glass, so the result isn't as sharp as I first thought it was.

I remember seeing countless cacti lit up for Christmas when we were there a few years back and loved the creative approach to it. BTW, speaking of great titles, this one is right on in more ways than one. Paul
