Star Trails

The OMD-EM1 has a mode called "Live Comp", which has a base exposure (in this case 6 seconds) and then multiple exposures for as long as required. The subsequent exposures only change the original exposure if they contain pixels that are brighter than the corresponding pixels in the original exposure. This is perfect for star trails close to a city, where the sky is not very dark.
This is the result of 30 minutes of 6 second exposures.

I liked the original. But this is good as well.
I had envisioned a 2nd source of light.

Thanks Dave. I dropped the brightness on the side of the church a little. I agree that it's better. Regards, Michael

Well done, and very cool. I like the hint of sunset in the background.

The only improvement I can envision is decreasing the amount of light on the right side of the church/chapel. It almost appears as if a vehicle's lights or spotlight is shining on it.

Thanks Dave. Yes, I think it's probably possible emulate this process by taking a large(ish) number of shorter exposures and blending them in Photoshop, possibly using "lighten" as the blending mode. Regards, Michael

Very nice.
I did star trails one night a few years back.
It was a very dark evening. Most of my shots were long, something like 15 minutes.
I'm pretty sure I put it together in photoshop using layers and some blending setting,
but I don't remember which one.
Anyway, this is a fine looking shot.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I had some technological help with this shot.
I was thinking about how I would have approached this if my Olympus didn't have the Live Comp mode and I'm not sure I could have done it. Regards, Michael

Geeze this is good...if anyone could compete with Dave on sheer talent it is you...Damn!

This is not to denigrate anyone else, Steve, Paul, Jim....but Dave gets it out there, and so do you.

Just excellent.

This is a jaw dropper in my eyes, excellent entry. Paul.
