On a personal note I can go back even further in time with old old phones. When I was 9 we moved to a very small farming town in NE Kansas and the first year we lived there the phone system was a wood box on the wall that you picked up the earpiece cranked a lever to get the attention of the lady at the central station down town. She would say something like "who would you like to connect to" and of course we would respond with a name and just like that I'd say "Hap, do you want to go swimming at the lake? After the phones were upgraded to rotary party lines the city installed water and sewer. We were living large then!!! Paul

Evocative, particularly for those of us who might have actually used one of those at one time. :)

Great shot Paul. You have made the most of your subject with the framing and viewpoint. Regards, Michael

No, Dave: I could not possibly remember remember «the days when phone number exchanges had names» because where I grew up there was no such thing. But I do (as many of us probably will) remember «wheel-dialing» as the—then—one and only option (there was no operator-assisted connecting any more in my country); and your image, Paul, brings back a lot of memories. It is, also, interestingly framed and the wide angle effect gives it an attractive look too. ~ db.

Excellent. I wish I had my grandfather's phone (which supposedly was one of the last rotary-dialed in NYC). It weighed a ton (Bakelite?) and was steeped in patina. The phone company demanded it back, maybe to put on display.

I even liked my grandparents' phone number, Plaza Eight... Does anyone else remember the days when phone number exchanges had names?

Dave

I've been to this place many times in the past and this phone caught my eye previously and took photos of it before but this one came out best so far. My thoughts on the composition was to try to avoid getting other junk in the shot without touching or moving it.
Both of the elderly couple living here borderline on hoarders. He was some kind of specialist Doctor so one room is filled with very old medical and lab gear (also great photo ops) and plenty of decades old sample medicines. Paul.

Yes, I too like this one. It certainly meets the challenge, and it is well done as well; I like the composition.
