It turns out to be a tip of another branch that is out of focus as it bends away. You can see a part of it below the bird on the right side of the branch. Jim

I see, in that case there happens to be more of those so called HUGE dust spots right under the bird. Paul.

Great shot for the challenge. But if you got dust showing that prominent at 7.1 it's time to clean that sensor. ;-) Paul
