Thanks a lot, Traveller, for your kind words; I sure do appreciate your detailed analysis of my entries. And you mention a dilemma I very often am confronted with when voting in our challenges: does the quality of an image as such weigh in heavier or lighter than its «on-topicness»? There is, IMO, no answer that can be used as a recipe for all cases; the question has to be elucidated for each picture individually. Again: thank you for sharing your thoughts on such questions! ~ db.

I've been analyzing this, letting it rest on my mind before commenting. Two Roofs is probably the best purely Negative Space image and the contrast between blue and white is very effect....but I suppose I will vote with Jim and Paul in favor of LoneTree.

Let me tell you why...

The color contrast is strong here also and while the distant background may not at least initially seem to be negative space...it is...and it is because falls off so well from sharpness, to moderate focus, to distant DOF blurriness....combining and converting the background into negative space because the foreground is so very strong.

Nicely done!

Best Wishes, Traveller

It's my favorite also. Reminds me so much of my travels to Switzerland from the early 70's Paul

I like this the best of your three. A single subject that really stands out from the backgrounds.
