Thanks. I have tended to prefer Photomatix to LR or PS when the scenes are fairly complex.
I also tried something that I may go back and try again - an average in PS of 9 sequential shots. This was on a larger view of the stream - and it seemed to work quite well. It smoothed out the water quite nicely, while maintaining detail in the rocks etc. I think it is a good alternative to scenes with both very bright areas and very dark shadows along with the stream where a ND filter would kill the shadows.

Much nicer...to my eye...the lighting seemed a tad harsh previously...this is just fine. Best Wishes, Traveller

New Version - HDR processed with Photomatix. The water appears a bit smoother. As a side note, Photoshop had a couple of problems converting these into an HDR.
Original went to pending.

BTW, I have never been a huge fan of perfectly smoothed out water; I have always preferred a bit of structure.

Hi Traveler & Paul,
Actually, this was shot using a tripod. And yes, it was mid day, but in an area with heavy shadows. So I shot this with 3 bracketed shots (+-2) for an HDR, and used Lightroom to create the HDR. The center exposure was at 1/4 sec. I have a couple of other shots with a slower shutter speed.

Actually, I was curious as to how LR would convert this in HDR mode. Note the distinct water droplets in the lower right. I will probably try another conversion today with a different package.

Fantastic, my kind of shot. I suggest another trip up with a ND filter and tripod then it would be super duper fantastic. Now, where its that water coming from high up in the desert mountains? Paul

I feel a certain peace with the flow of nature seeing this lovely image...I think you maybe have gone slower in shutter speed with a tripod or, holding the camera on a rock....the water would be more milky-like....it looks as if you shot this mid-dayish.

If this is relatively nearby, maybe shoot it with a tripod....1/2 second or slower.

Just an idea.
