Built In Tools

Havencroff Apartment complex.

Her tools of the trade are built in and are placed right up front where she means business.

This isn't a serious entry nor will it stay very long and in reality its not a very good effort on my part. Just trying to help out by adding a photo to make the challenge look more active.

It may appear as if she is dead but she was still alive and trying to move but died shortly after. If you look close you will see some damage to her abdomen on her right side. The story is I removed a light fixture on the outside of a building and inside the box was this huge lady. In her efforts to escape my trying to capture her she ran right straight out of the box and fell on the sidewalk 6 feet below without the aide of a tailing web to slow the fall. I'm guessing from the size she was near the end of her life cycle anyway.

Ding ding ding, something hit me today! Brown recluse spiders usually are not this big, then it hit me. DUH DUFUS!! This is an adult female and all spiders when preparing to lay eggs their abdomen's get much larger than normal till the eggs are laid. And this is the time of year for egg sacks, makes sense now. Glad I froze her dead body for 24+ hours before I flushed her. My home does not have these now and I don't want to accidently invite them in either. Paul

It's looking like I'm going to have to work again next weekend so that will scratch the air show. If I were able to go I'd use the 50D since it has all cross focus points and tracks better than the 6D. My longest lens is the 70-200 and of course it's 60% longer on the 50D. The down side would have been exposure and DR are not as reliable as compared to the 6D. Paul

Paul - I think your lost comment mentioned you were going to shoot the Blue Angels. I was able to get the USAF Thunderbirds at a show, and had a great time. Bring a long lens, and plan to shoot a lot in burst mode as they fly by.

Paul - I love the idea, and I think the pic came out really good. But after looking at this and a couple of images I found on the web, the only way to get better eyes & fangs is to probably shoot it dead, and the head only with image stacking; and then probably straight on.
But when you include the "whole" spider, this is very very good.

The paper of all things is a run of the mill sheet from my laser printer. What I didn't like about this image is loss of detail in the area of the eyes and fangs. Even tho I had the light double softened there is still a hot/glare spot on the head. You know me, it's the little things that count.
By the way for those that don't know this is in fact a Loxosceles reclusa, or brown recluse. I see them all the time but never tried to capture one for a photo shoot. They give me the creeps! Paul.

We honorably disagree again...this is among your best pictures...I love the matte paper that you placed this on.
