You know now that a) there is «a kind of glazed colored tiles traditionally used in Spanish and Portuguese buildings» for decoration or *signs*; that b) these blue tiles are called «azulejos»; and that c) you have—thanks to a technique called photography—more than just a faint idea of how «azulejos» look like. You obviously *do*, then, know quite a lot more on the subject, Paul, than you did, say, a week ago, don't you? ~ db.
Azulejos are—as the New Oxford American Dictionary puts it—«a kind of glazed colored tiles traditionally used in Spanish and Portuguese buildings (ORIGIN from Spanish: from azul "blue")». That's all there is to it, Paul: you are now completely in the know! ;-) db.
No, Traveller, you are not wrong on this (how could you?), but rather partly right. These blue tiles—called "azulejos" in both countries—belong to the cultural heritage of (parts of) Portugal as well as of (parts of) Spain: let's call them "Iberian" then! ;-)) db.

I have always had a weakness for blue tiles...though I think of them being Portuguese rather than Spanish. I presume that I am wrong in this. Best Wishes, Traveller
