Great shot. Real people in their environment. Not often that you can catch that. Gerri G.

Thanks, Shu. Mr. Moore was a wonderful gentleman. I learned he passed away a couple of years after I took this photo. I only saw him this time and one other, but I learned that his grandmother was the first postmaster for the tiny community of New Site and that this store had been in the family for years ... and, of course, now it's gone. But, I still have fond memories of meeting him. - Ken

Thanks, Traveller, for your kind words. Its important to take time to get to know your subjects; talk with them and build up their trust and they will begin to relax and be themselves in front of the camera. ... and constantly be on the lookout for the "decisive moment" when everything comes together -- that moment may only last a split second and may not come again, so you better be ready. I don't think it reallly matters whether it's film or an electronic sensor in the camera. - Ken

Ahh, yes! A wonderful character study!! He's sitting right about the time I was a little girl!! All these elements are so familiar! Shu

In both of these images you show a real talent for getting the subject to engage with the camera. They look in unafraid and show who they really are...nice work. I wonder if this boldness might not have been a function of the times?

These were also film. It would be nice to see if you could capture the same honesty now, and digital.

But both of these are however simply wonderful.
