Pier Pressure

The main subjects are the 3 trees on the right third of the image, and the smoke beyond the pier on the middle third, leaving the pier as the star in the left third.

I really like this, Sierra. It is so serene looking ... and then the smoke adds a sense of mystery. - Ken

I think it fits the challenge, in that, for me, for some reason, it's the poles that support the pier that draw my eye. There's also something appealing about the light tone of the water in the foreground. Regards, Michael

Of course it does, don't worry about it. This has a real clean-ness to it, (not busy), considering all that is going on in the frame. Best Wishes, Traveller

I guess what I meant was the main subject in each third of the photo, in a vertical sense. I will clean up my description. But I'm hoping this fits in the challenge?

I have to agree with Traveller, the main subject in the image is where your eye is drawn to, not what you point out after the shutter button is pressed. If the trees were to be your main subject then you as the photographer have to find a way to lead the viewers to that object. I see the pier 1st and the mountains 2nd. I never noticed the trees until you said trees.

Thanks Traveller, I actually enjoy the input, and am eager to learn new things to make my photography better. Sounds like a good tip, and I will try it out when I get a chance.

I don't think so...I think that the pier is the main subject and so this is a center shot composition. What I'm curious about is whether or not you could burn the mountains a little with a photoshop burn took to add some dark substance to the mountains in the background....I've tried this with my Utah Sets...sometimes it seems effective, sometimes less so.

( I hope you don't mind me talking to you like this...I love the photo, but in the same way that shu has been so helpful to me and taught me so much photographically, I thought I might pass on the favor and do the best I can)
