Neuschwanstein Castle

Bavaria

This castle, built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, attracts more than 1.3 million visitors per year.
I was a bit disappointed to find the castle covered by scaffolding. I hope the renovation will be completed until next spring.

Thanks for your comments, Traveller, Paul and Jim.

This shot is also my favorite of the two.

Paul, I do not think the sign still exists. This was captured from a hiking trail along a small lake just below the two castles (Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau). One of the the best angles would be from a bridge above the castle; the castle would appear on top of the mountain but I never was there.

Traveller, the problem with Notre Dame is exactly as you say. I once read they need seven years for a complete renovation of the outer walls and after seven years, the spot where they began will be almost black again from air pollution. So you are very lucky to find the church without scaffolding.

Kind regards, Gerald

This is the angle that I like the best. You captured it very well.

Excellent entry Gerald! I visited this place when I was stationed in Germany in the early 1970's. I was jaw dropped then and still am yet today. Your vantage point was different than the one I used. I remember stopping to shoot it along the hiking trail that had a sign that said "Scenic Photographic Location"! Paul

Yes, the scaffolding can be disappointing ...yet the completed portion on the left (?) does look strikingly good. I was in Paris last year and Notre Dame, which I don't think I've seen without scaffolding for over 10 years or something....was like...a different Cathedral....it was strange to return having complained about the scaffolding for so many years.

In the end, I think it is worth it....if not for us, then the next generation.

But I do like this image.

Best Wishes, Traveller
