Many beautiful old buildings survived the bombing. (You can see how blackened they are from it.) The most famous building, the Frauenkirche (Women's Church), was deliberately left in ruins by the communist government, but it has now been rebuilt and it's quite beautiful. Much was destroyed but the whole city is very nice, in fact.
Like Traveller, I'm wondering about the condition of Dresden. I'm surprised a building this old is standing after what happened at the end of ww2. Regards, Michael
How interesting, all we hear of Dresden is of the ww2 bombing....though I remember being in Dresden in 1989(?) and it still being depressing with rubble here and there...looks pretty nice now. Traveller
