Worth It

A statement or a question.

Marietta National Cemetery, Marietta, GA

Pvt Buckley, born 1844, was from Lindsay, Ontario Canada. He joined the US Army to help support his family. He was later captured and was a POW. He was exchanged for CSA POW's and returned to fight. He served in Company G, 136th New York Infantry. During the Battle of Peachtree Creek he captured the regimental flag of the 31st Mississippi and rallied his troops to take their objective. He was then killed in action.

You just gotta love The Google.

Most of the headstones visible here are for Union dead during the Civil War campaign around Atlanta. Confederate dead, and a cousin of my great grandfather, were not buried in this cemetery.

this is a very thought-producing image, pops! (it makes me realize an image does not have to be filled w flashy color to impact the viewer.) wonderful shot and thanks for the info about the scene. shu

And after all that, still only 19 or 20 when he was killed. Certainly a very on-topic image Pops. Regards, Michael
