The Climb

Guernsey

So, to bring you an interesting image for the challenge, the intrepid Najinsky decides to climb a cliff to find a different view of the Island. And when I get to the top, to the very summit of our beautiful Island, what do I find; fabled mermaids?, piles of gold? spectacular wide-angle demanding scenery? No, a Seagull! But as I risked life and limb for this shot, I'm posting it!

You can glimpse the cliff in this aerial shot: http://www.pbase.com/image/122615782

Thanks for the comments guys. The seagull had quite a bit of character and gave me a number of poses, including some with just the eyes peering over the top of the rock, and I almost went with that version, but as Bob picked up on, this composition momentarily seems to transform him into something different.

The shoreline and indeed much of the Island is a joy. Renoir enjoyed painting here, in fact I think this painting:http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/pierre-auguste-renoir-moulin-huet-bay-guernsey shows (as the left background) the rocks I climbed.

Well I reakon it was worth it Najinsky... I've never seen a gull with such a fat stomach... could very well be one of those very rare man-eater types? ..... :-)

Thanks for the background information. The seagull look seriously annoyed. A beautiful spot, well worth the climb. - CameraShy09

Excellent shot! Nice texture and color here. A creative take on the seagull shot. Something fun and unique. Btw, You have a really great looking shore line there.

... and definitely much more interesting that a photograph of gold coins would have been! :-)

You are brave soul... thanks for being so daring. I love the story accompanying the photograph and you certainly did a good job of combining animal, earth and sky. Well done.
