CIC 131: Out of the Ordinary

Canon Image Challenge 131: Out of the Ordinary

...this is what I think....I think we all take very good pictures, sometimes we even find great images.

We are good at this, almost all of us...except for Davev who never does anything but great pictures.

Be that as it may, there a few things that have influenced my thoughts recently...there was a grad student I saw on New Year's Eve (the daughter of people I was invited to stay with), never used Photoshop, just got a nice Nikon DSLR, and in the camera and in Pisca (?) she was producing some fine, whitish, almost burnt out B & W, double exposures.

Through her father she has seen lots of my work and was shy to show me what she was doing, and hadn't even shown her mother and father...it was excellent, it was a series out of the ordinary with maybe some sublime beauty.

Or maybe it was just Grad-Student pretentious...but it was different and she produced these images, she said, because she couldn't take a simple good picture as I do.

As all of us do with almost casual ease.

And there was Paul's complaint about some burn in the whites in his entry...no one controls indoor/flash light like Paul does...but maybe he should have just burned the heck out of the upper left corner....so bright you might think that God his-self was stepping though.

I am looking this Challenge for something...Out of the Ordinary...for Jim, maybe he needs to take some desert chilli''s and set them alight with lighter fluid...I don't know, but with photoshop or imagination and/or props...let us bend the envelop a little.

This need not be a Surrealist Challenge...but it may be. I have some water color bought for a previous Challenge but never used...maybe I'll get to use it this time...or something.

I don't necessary want the entries to be..."Good Pictures. Well Conceived and Well Taken..."

They can be bad pictures...but...different, Out of the Ordinary...( Let us see if we can get Paul away from his perfectionism...Paul's work is always...interesting; I don't think the dressed wine bottles got the attention this formulation deserved...but it was also...just good, just almost perfect...maybe something different from Paul).

Finally, think of Ken Christian's "Toadstools," a few Challenges back. A very good image, technically perfect, but also Out of the Ordinary because of its radical low angle of view...so this would be fine as an Out of the Ordinary entry.

Let us get to it...take some chances....blow some hi lights, do some selective color....I don't know.

But YOU know.

Out of the Ordinary

Have Fun.
