A two hour drive south of Antigua, plus a 2 hour hike up to the top. Well worth the difficult hike! More pics to follow...
Volcan Pacaya - erupts every so often
Thankfully, not while we stood next to the crater!
Volcan Pacaya - we hiked right up to the top!
¨The Volcan hiking crew¨
Good fun, but in this photo with our friends Will & Arabella, we´re trying not to ingest the noxious gases the volcano spits out every few minutes. Smells like a horrible trip to the bathroom mixed with rotten eggs.
Pretty profound warning sign....a little hard to read.
Arabella....trying not to gag from the fumes
M with our guide Roberto
He was cool and carried a machete. He ascends the Volcano so much, he looks like a billy goat climbing the steep trail.
What you can´t see from the photos is that I have pumice dust in my ears
Will & Arabella ascending up through the clouds
Here we are heading up through the clouds
Arabella peering over the rim of the crater
about to get a blast of noxious gas
We made it - on the rim of the crater - 2550 meters above sea level
