Boo! Hiss! Wrightsville Beach is just full of weird surfing rules. From 11am to 4pm everyday, the surfers are limited to certain areas of the beach, and those areas are always changing, without much regard to whether there are actually decent waves there. And the kicker is, ...the areas they are restricted to are open to everyone! So, they have these very small areas to surf in, with kids and swimmers as obstacles. Which leads to a modest question: How much money does a surfer spend in Wrightsville, compared to the average swimmer/beach-goer? I'll bet the answer is: "a LOT more".
So, why the official anti-surfer attitudes in WB? Personally, I've never met a better bunch of people than the WB surfers. Get a clue, WB! Those surfers on your great beaches should be celebrated, advertised and used to draw MORE people. End of political rant.
