Ogaden, Somali Region, eastern Ethiopia. A dry belt, sparsely populated by Somali nomadic pastoralists... Suffering from the ethiopian regime widespread human rights abuses and clan vendetta, Surviving through international aid for years... A couple of rainy days between two droughts... Conquered in the late 19th century by Ethiopia, it was invaded by the Italians in 1935 who let spaghetti and the few decent tracks. Liberated in 1941, it was then invaded by Somalia in 1977 and retaken by Ethiopia in 1978... A strategic place at the center of the volatile horn of Africa, Ogaden, is as well believed to be lying on large quantities of gas. But the ambushes of the Ogaden National Liberation Front prevent any developments.
