The fishing plant at New Harbour on the Blandford Peninsula (Nova Scotia) was first established in 1947. Originally, it was a fish processing plant, then a seal processing plant. In 1961, it became a fully operational whale processing plant until the Federal Government of Canada’s total ban on whaling in 1972. Until its closure in 1999, the plant continued as a processing plant for herring, mackerel, salmon and squid. The plant is now abandoned, with pigeons as its main occupants.
