St George Tombland

The church building dates back to the 13th century. The nave is the oldest part.
The tower was rebuilt around 1430-1450. The north porth and aisle were built in 1445, the south aisle in 1490 and the south porth 1490.
St George is important in the history of Norwich because he is the patron saint of the City itself.
St George's is one of two churchis in Norwich with this dedication. The other one is St George Colgate.
Tombland is from the Old English word tom, meaning "empty", therefore Tombland means "empty space".
