This is a little checkered tulip called Snakeflower. I think it looks more like a bell than a snake...

This is a great shot - the subdued lighting yet with the one little bright backlit part showing through the petals - the shallow depth of field works great - and it is cool how the bottom petals look redder and the top petals look more purple - V
