Chettro Ketl, one of 11 large prehistoric villages in Chaco Canyon, had approximately 500 rooms. About one-half of the village has been excavated (as of 1971). Pueblo Bonito and Chettro Kettle were sister settlements in that the span of occupation of each was about the same. Chettro Ketl, however, has several intriguing features the other villages do not have. These features are described at the bottom of each picture; the station number are from the trail guide of 1971.
Lewis H. Morgan, writing in 1881, says: "...upon the north side of the canyon, near the bluff, are the ruins of the Pueblo of Chettro Ketle, or the Rain Pueblo..." (pg. 179)
